WE HAVE HAT!

And I couldn't be more proud of it, though I keep feeling like it's too big for a normal baby's head. It may not be. Reference articles list an average newborn's head as having a circumference of 14 inches, and this hat will fit anywhere from 12 to 16 inches, so it should be good to go. I'm a little delirious at this point, having cast on with no pattern and only an idea around noon today and finishing up the entire thing about half an hour ago. It took 3 false starts, but I finally got rolling and got it done. I'm still sifting through the notes I kept while I knit it and sometime tomorrow I'll be posting it. My first pattern ever! Yay!

But right now, I'm off to bed. The baby's shower's in less than a week and I still need to start/finish the sweater that completes the layette.

Also tomorrow, photos from my secret pal package!

Babies Babies Babies!

The Afghan is finished! It's been washed and folded up to sit and wait for the matching pieces to be finished. I started on the hat first and found that my calculations were off, so I'll be frogging three hours of work and starting over. I think I'll whip out the booties real quick because I think the finished pieces will help ease the frustration of frogging the hat. I'm using the basic bootie pattern found here, without any changes. When I finalize the hat (by finalize I mean finish, wash and like the way it looks) I'll post the pattern.

In other news, we found out this morning that little Mr. Evan will be joining us this Christmas to hang out with his brother and sister. So, that said, I'm off in search of the perfect shade of blue yarn for his layette set!

Almost There!

Only 30 rows left in the Lace and Fans Baby Afghan! In my "off time" (ie: my fingers/arms/shoulders/eyes are too sore to knit anymore that day), I've been looking for a hat to go with the blanket since I'm having to start a brand new 300+ yard skein of yarn to finish those 30 rows, AND I have another skein still sitting in the bag that was bought for this project! I found several things but none of them was quite right. In the end, I've found a "vanilla" (very very basic) hat, bootie and cardigan that I've been mapping out the patterns on graph paper to see how/if can change them to match the Lace and Fan stitch in the blanket. I'll knit those up as soon as the blanket's done, and I'll check around to see what people think of the legalities of posting the patterns for them since there is an original pattern by someone else in there somewhere. The changes so far are quite substantial, but I still feel the need to ask around. Anyway, keep it here to see if they get put up, and to see the pictures when they're done!
