This is the post that never ends...

Actually, its the post I said I was going to make sometime ago. Pictures of the completed Lace and Fan items, pictures of the goodies from my secret pal, and the pattern for the hat.

Here's the finished Lace and Fans Afghan! It ended up being crib sized, approximately 35 inches wide and 45 inches long. I used US size 7 needles and Caron's Simply Soft in Soft Pink. The pattern came from a book by Lesiure Arts, so no posting of the pattern here.

The pattern for the afghan called for 5 skiens of yarn, but somehow I only used 3.5. So, I had 400+ yards of leftover pink yarn and a little boy due in my house! I found a pattern for a basic baby bootie online (link in a previous post) and made up the pattern for the hat.

Here's a closer shot of the hat. I kept careful notes while I was knitting, so hopefully this pattern is clear and correct. Granted, my hat did this funny little pointy thing at the crown when I washed it. Anyway, here's the pattern for my Bella Hat:

Bella Hat

Fits a full term newborn (head size 12-18 inches)
worsted weight yarn
US Size 8 needles (5.00mm)

Cast on 75 stitches. Work knit 1 purl 1 rib for one inch. Knit one round, all through back loops to produce one round of twisted stitches. Place marker.

Pattern stitch:
Row 1: *k1, yo, k1, p4, p2tog x2, p4, k1, yo* repeat around
Row 2: knit around (repeat for rows 4, 6, 8, and 10)
Row 3: *k1, yo, k2, p3, p2tog x2, p3, k2, yo* repeat around
Row 5: *k1, yo, k3, p2, p2tog x2, p2, k3, yo* repeat around
Row 7: *k1, yo, k4, p1, p2tog x2, p1, k4, yo* repeat around
Row 9: *k1, yo, k5, p2tog x2, k5, yo* repeat around

Work pattern until you have two rows of fans (one on top of the other).

Begin decrease rows:
Row 1: *k1, yo, k5, ssk (slip one knitwise, slip one purlwise, knit together through back loops), k2tog, k5,yo* repeat around
Row 2: k6, ssk, k2tog, *k11, ssk, k2tog* x4, k4
Row 3: *k1, yo, k4, ssk, k2tog, k4,yo* repeat around
Row 4: k5, ssk, *k9, ssk, k2tog* x4, k4
Row 5: *k1, yo, k3, ssk, k2tog, k3,yo* repeat around
Row 6: k2 *ssk x2, k2tog x2, k3* x4, ssk x2, k2tog x2, k1
Row 7: ssk x2, *k2tog x2, k1, ssk* x4, sl1
Row 8: *ssk, k2tog* x5 (10 stitches remaining)

Graft remaining stitches and weave in ends.

In other news, this was the month where we sent our completed projects to our secret pals (I must admit to not having finished my secret pal's gift yet with the layette and school starting. I hoping to finish it by the end of the month and get it sent off.) and revealed ourselves!

My secret pal sent goodies for all the kids :)

A toy snake for brother. He wouldn't sit still long enough for a picture of him playing with it.

Sister got a glam scarf to match her diva attitude. Fun fur and nubby/slubby yarn keep her entertained when she's got it on.
Sister wouldn't give up her scarf and would hog brother's toy every chance she got. She did eventually hand it over, but not without grumbling about it.

For brother-to-be there was a cardigan set made of organic cotton. So very boy looking, but so soft that I think I could sleep on a pillow covered in it and not want to get up!

Brother-to-be also got this fun rolled brim hat. I have no idea what it's made of, but it's really soft and furry.
